Midwest Traders Coffee sells coffee in both the retail environment and wholesale. In 2002, Friedrichs Coffee launched a wholesale coffee division that supplies our coffee blends through specialty coffeehouses, restaurants, specialty grocery and food stores, and mass-market grocery chains.

The first Friedrichs coffeehouse opened in October, 1991, in West Des Moines at the intersection of 22nd Street and University Avenue.

We opened our second store in November 1992 at the Kaleidoscope at the Hub in the Hub Tower in downtown Des Moines.

Our third store opened at 42nd and University in the Uptown Shopping Center, during the infamous Des Moines flood of 1993.

Our original store was relocated in November of 1995 to the end bay of the shopping center.

In May of 1996, we opened in the Principal Financial Building at 801 Grand Avenue in downtown Des Moines.

In December 2000, we opened our flagship store in Urbandale near the intersection of 86th Street and Meredith Drive. Seeking a more contemporary and upscale image, we partnered with a local furniture design house, Sticks, to help us design and furnish this newest location in the Friedrichs family.
